—— A Season of Healing

Earlier this year in May, I had a nerve decompression surgery for chronic migraines of over 19 years. It has been a long, slow, and quiet season of recovery. My doctors and physical therapist advised me to refrain from all physical activity and limit the amount of time I spend at my desk painting or doing computer work.

I laid in bed for weeks at my parents’ house while I recovered, missing many of my usual activities. One day while scrolling Instagram I found myself drawn to the Pantone Challenge, made popular by the wildly talented Big Blue Tang. I had seen those perfect little square paintings all over my social media for a while and decided this would be a perfect fit for me during this season. It was one of the first things in a long time that gave me energy and made me feel excited about something new. As a challenge to show up both creatively and personally, I committed to 30 small paintings that would explore the natural beauty found in my everyday life.

—— Inspiration

Many of these paintings are inspired by the little treasures I find on my morning walk with Peaches (my sweet little pup). This small ritual is the touch point for most of my day. Even in the muggy Houston humidity, I find myself looking forward to the steady comfort of the sun slowly rising over my city and the start of a new day. I also spent a lot of Saturday mornings at my local farmer’s market, keeping an eye out for anything that caught my eye and I even took my first floral arranging class (so fun!). My friends and family have also joined in the fun, and they send me pictures of pretty flowers from their own adventures, which is just the loveliest type of text message to pop up. I love beauty, and I seek to find it in the quiet and everyday moments. I hope this is conveyed throughout this series and that it is a welcome addition to your own home and a small reminder to take it day by day and embrace the wonder all around us. Below are some photos I’ve taken the past few months on these walks that influenced this series.

——— The Details

Each piece is a 3.75 x 5.75 inch size, hand painted with gouache (think of it as a mix between acrylic & watercolor!). All paintings are on a set of pantone postcards of various background colors. Each painting will be available unframed only, but I will include recommendations for framing on my shop page. Since this work is painted with acrylic gouache it is relatively waterproof, but the safest bet is always storing artwork behind a glass surface or hanging it in an area away from potential water exposure. They will be titled and signed on the back in pencil. Please see my FAQ for any further questions.

—— Early birds

This is a limited collection with only 30 paintings - and frankly I have no idea how quickly they will sell! I highly recommend getting on my email list, and promise to only send the good stuff and never any spam ;) It has been a long time since I sold any original paintings, and I am just so excited to share this with y’all!!

—— Nadia’s Initiative

This September marks the seven year anniversary of the beginning of the Yazidi genocide in Iraq. During my recovery I read Nadia Murad’s memoir, The Last Girl, detailing her experience as a Yazidi woman kidnapped by the Islamic State in 2014 and kept as a slave. Nadia was able to escape to safety, but thousands of Yazidis are still currently displaced and the survivors are struggling to recover as a community. I will be donating 30% of all proceeds to Nadia’s nonprofit to support her efforts in assisting women in conflict settings and survivors of sexual violence worldwide.

——— Prints

I will be offering my first print run of this series once I am done selling the originals! This is another area that I am excited to explore. These will be available towards the end of the year and exact sizes are TBD but I would love to hear if you have any preferences! Keep an eye out on your email as I move forward with this process.

Available on Thursday, September 16th at 9 am CT.

——— Thank you

I bought the domain for this website almost 4 years ago and it sat empty for a long time. As time went on, I devoted most of my energy towards Every Sacred Sunday, which I believe was the right and practical move - zero regrets in the slightest and I am honored & humbled each day that I get to do this work! But I always wanted to have this little corner of the internet to explore my own art and experiment all things creative (and I always wanted to do it right!). It is genuinely a dream come true to press publish on this website. Many of you have reached out to me asking if I would ever sell my artwork or prints. And so many times my answer was that I just didn’t know! Thank you thank you for your patience, your support, and your belief in me as I have navigated this process. I hope and pray that this is the first of oh-so-many collections you will be seeing from me!

With love,

Christie
