—— A little summer recap (so far!)

I finished this collection and then jumped right on a plane! Some dear friends and I traveled to Greece & France and then ended on a pilgrimage to Medjugorje. It was beautiful, exciting, and refreshing and I’m still processing it all! Travel is such a gift, and I never want to take it for granted. It's so refreshing to temporarily step away from the everyday life & grind and experience something new. It was one of the first times in a while where I felt truly present in the moment which is something I can often struggle with. Each day was packed with so much newness which was a much appreciated break after feeling like my days lately have just been on a loop. And not to mention the countless discussions and moments with dear friends - both old & new! One of my other favorite parts of travel is how much it makes me appreciate being back home. I always find I have a newfound appreciation for what I already have. I'm settling back in and excited to get back to painting!

The drive to explore is a key human trait and I think newness adds so much value to our lives. It’s so interesting to see how other people live and I always come home with so much to think about. I included some highlights below!

—— Thoughts on the challenge…

This was so much fun! Spending an entire month just contemplating beauty was so good for my soul! It has also been a challenge in more than one way - I typically do not start and finish a painting in a single session so this definitely gave me an opportunity to develop a more efficient creative process! I also have mixed feelings about posting on Instagram every day, which is typically not my norm and I was also coming off of a social media fast post-Lent. I prefer to really protect the creative process when it is in early developmental stages, and it's so easy to get influenced in both positive & negative ways by like counts. However, it kept me very accountable and dedicated to painting every day. I think if I repeat this challenge next year (which I would very much like to!) then it will require a bit more prep, which is never a bad thing to get better at!

——— The Details

This collection is comprised of 30 original paintings of different flowers. They were created as a series during May to practice new flowers and challenge myself to create consistently. Each piece is painted with gouache on 300 lb, 100% cotton watercolor paper measuring 5x7 inches. I played around with lots of different color palettes and enjoyed exploring some fresh combinations! All artwork will be available unframed only, but I will include recommendations for framing here. They will be titled and signed on the bottom of each piece. Please see my FAQ for any further questions!

Available on Thursday, July 6th at 10 am CT.

This challenge was a LOT of work and I’m so proud of you!! It is a beautiful thing to try something new and invest in a creative practice - brava my friends!! I would love for this to be an annual tradition and already have ideas for next year, so see you then! :)
