The May Flowers Challenge

Come paint with me!

"Consider how the wild flowers grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you, not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today, and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, how much more will he clothe you—you of little faith!" // Luke 12

Hello dear friends! It's been a minute. I'm so excited to be back in this space and have some time to play & paint! At the beginning of the year I decided that I wanted to commit to a personal challenge to paint more types of flowers. Practice practice practice! That's all it is my dear reader. As I continued brainstorming, I decided that I wanted to share this idea and see if others would like to participate as well! I'm calling it the May Flowers Challenge, and we will be painting or drawing a different flower each day during the month of May.

I love a good 30 day challenge - whether it's creative or even a Whole30 - it's so helpful to reset or establish a habit. Like any other hobby, painting is propelled by sweet sweet repetition. The more I paint a subject - mountains, botanicals, you name it - the stronger my paintings are over time. It's almost like practicing something makes you better at it - go figure.

The flowers will increase in difficulty over the 30 days. We'll start with the simplest shapes first before we move into the more detailed ones. Whether you are an experienced painter or completely new, I hope you will take the time to invest in something fun and creative for yourself!

——— The Details

The challenge starts in one week on May 1st! I'd love for you to join me! For now, your homework is to start gathering your source photos together! Below is the list of flowers, although feel free to edit it as you please! Look through old albums, take a trip to your local nursery, or ask family & friends if they have any to share with you! One of my favorite things is to paint from photos that have a memory or some type of meaning attached to them - although I know this isn't always possible! If one of the flowers isn't in season or perhaps not even local to you, then just do your best and use what you have access to :)

Flowers, to me, are one of the sweetest & simplest joys out there. I buy them for myself every week. They are lovely, and they just exist to delight. I'll send out another email next week as we get closer to our start date. Have a blessed week my friends!

Cheers,

Christie
